While attending to a mass casualty incidence along Masaka road in 2021, I was involved in an serious accident that left me disabled. I spent a total of 10 months receiving treatment, the first two weeks after the accident spent in ICU, requiring multiple operations but after all that, I was grateful to God for the lease of life I had.
On my hospital bed, I had a lot of reflections and promised myself to serve my community better if I left hospital alive.
As a keen observer, I was aware of the unemployment problem among the youth of my community. However, interacting with them after I left hospital gave me an even grimmer picture. I heard stories of youths in despair for failing to get jobs, youths turning to drugs because of their loss of optimism, young women dropping out of schools due to lack of school fees, young women expelled from schools for getting pregnant, youth who dropped out of school due to the long COVID 19 school break, and so many other reasons. The criminality the youths turned to for survival was causing a great deal of misery in our community.
Its upon that background and consultations with the community leaders that we came to the conclusion that setting up a vocational institute in our community to empower our youth with skills would go a long way to helping them get back on the right track and hence contribute to the development of our community and country at large.
With the meagre resources at our disposal, we have started on a long journey to fulfil our pledge to the society and we hope that the Lord will enable us fulfil the mission.
